HYC's Dalton & Merry Top the Leaderboard in Squib Eastern's on Day 1
05 September 2021
Four races of the Squib Eastern Championship took place yesterday in a light shifting SE wind with the tide ebbing. The first start in a light breeze resulted in a general recall of the 19 boats as the ebbing tide set some sailors over the line. The race was restarted by Race Officer Derek Bothwell under a black flag. Local sailors Emmet Dalton and Neal Merry won the first two races followed closely by Fergus O Kelly and Matthew Cotter. As the tide slackened and the wind veered and increased the following two races became much more open and tightly contested with Peter Wallace (RNIYC) and Ian Travers (KYC) crossing the finish line in first place. Lots more to play for today. Good luck to all participants.
