Howth Yacht Club Local Race Officer Training Course

We are excited to announce that ahead of our 2025 racing season, we are running the newly updated
Irish Sailing Local Race Officer training course.

This course is now a requirement for all Race Officers and On-The-Water assistants; we are offering it
free of charge for our club members. David Lovegrove, our highly respected International Race Officer, will deliver the course alongside some of the team from Irish Sailing.

The course will run over two sessions; attendance at both sessions is required:
  • Friday evening, 21/02/25, 19:30 - 21:30
  • Saturday morning, 22/02/25, 10:30 - 12:30

Participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion.

The course is valuable for:

  • Experienced Race Officers and On-The-Water Assistants with existing qualifications; you’ll cover updated procedures and new content.
  • Individuals with little to no previous race management training but have an interest in helping with local race management teams or running smaller club races.
  • Competitors who want to understand the elements and challenges that race management teams consider during any race.

The course is being run in conjunction with Irish Sailing’s new safety awareness programme which hopes to ensure that all volunteers who help with on-the-water activities have at least a basic qualification in safety and race management procedures.

Note: While this course is free of charge for HYC members, please sign-up early, as places may be limited.

Volunteering is the lifeblood of our club. We encourage our members who are already involved or are interested in supporting our race management teams to attend. This will help ensure we have a strong team of Race Officers and On-The-Water Assistants to deliver our racing for years to come.
